Contact details privacy
Last updated 2 October 2026
What is it?
Every membership record has a Privacy box in Member Details on its edit page: Keep contact details private from other GNZ members. Tick it and other GNZ members can no longer see the member's email address, phone numbers, city or country.
Why it exists
Your contact details are normally visible to other verified GNZ members. That lets members get in touch with each other. Not everyone wants their details shared that widely, so the box lets each member opt out without leaving the membership list.
Who can tick it
You can tick it on your own record. Anyone who can edit your record can also tick or untick it for you, for example your club administrator if you ask them to.
What it hides
When the box is ticked, these details are hidden from other members:
- Email address
- Home, mobile and business phone numbers
- City and country
They're hidden on the member's record, in the membership list, and in member exports. Other members also can't find you by searching for your email address.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't hide you from the membership list. Your name, GNZ number, clubs and badges still show to everyone allowed to see member information.
- It doesn't hide your details from the people who look after your record. You, administrators of your clubs, the Awards Officer and GNZ administrators still see everything, because they need it to manage your membership.
- It doesn't hide your emergency contact. Any verified member can still see who to call, so they can reach your next of kin after an accident.
- It doesn't stop club or GNZ emails. You still receive emails sent to your club or to the membership. The person sending one sees how many people it's going to, not your address.
- It isn't needed for your street address, postcode or date of birth. Those are already shown only to the people who look after your record, whether or not the box is ticked.
- It doesn't affect anyone outside GNZ. Member information is never public: people who aren't signed in see none of it.

Turning it on or off
Open your record, click Edit Member, tick or untick Privacy in Member Details, and click Save Changes. The change takes effect straight away. Edit a member's contact details walks through the edit form.
